Championship Course Review by Tee Times Magazine
Jeremy Pern was the architect faced with the task, and the outcome was a spectacular success, one that has matured rapidly and that remains for all to see and savour. It is regularly voted in the top eighty courses in the land, one that is a true golfer’s course full of challenges, risk and reward holes, and affords great satisfaction when played well.
The front nine is an amalgam of spectacular holes that become seared into the memory banks, it is difficult to pick favourites, but two stand out, the 3rd, a par three from a high tee over a lake with no margin of error, followed by the par 5 fourth hole that literally has everything. An angled tee shot to a narrow fairway that breaks away to the left, then a very narrow lay up area, impossible to go for the green for mere mortals, before the approach to an elevated green protected by lakes along the left edge. The golf masochist’s dream.
Accommodation is provided in the recently refurbished three star hotel, comfortable en suite rooms with stylish furnishings, many of which have panoramic views across the golf course. It boasts unrivalled health and leisure facilities which are free for guests, swimming pool, sauna, spa bath sunshower, and an extensively equipped gymnasium for those with energy left after the golf. For those wishing to be pampered after the exertion, there are resident beauty therapists offering a range of treatments.
Add the first class bar and bistro and the resort provides the total golf package that ticks all the boxes for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The resort has a new excellent conference facility that is now available for use, and an extensive variety of breaks in addition to golf, involving activity breaks, horseracing breaks, spa breaks and many others. There is also the option to rent one of the very well equipped cottages that are on the site, a compact little hamlet style development that offers that something a little different.

Naval College Golf Day Testimonial
Following a successful day of golf, we recently received feedback from the group organiser, Marc Dowling:
Good Afternoon Matt,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you on behalf of RALEIGH and BRNC Golf Society for an absolutely brilliant day of Golf, despite the inclement weathers best efforts to dampen spirits.
Your patience and professionalism were displayed in abundance over the past few weeks.
Once again, many thanks and I look forward to working with you and DG&CC in the future.
Kind Regards
Marc Dowling

Another Glowing Review at Dartmouth Golf & Country Club
Hiya,
I just wanted to thank you and let you know that after our stay from Sunday until yesterday we will definitely be back again in the future!
Thank you so much for everything. Absolutely everyone from the front desk staff to the bar and kitchen staff and the pro shop were fantastic and couldn’t do enough to make our stay more comfortable and easy, particularly with 2 babies! You all constantly blew us away with how thoughtful, attentive, polite and generous you are.
Everyone went above and beyond the call of duty whether it be extending our check out time by a couple of hours, the offer from the chef to make us a dessert of our choice to even sausage rolls that we could pick up between the 9th green and 10th tee. Simply brilliant!
Thank you again!
Kind Regards
Mr Hinton

GOLFERS VOTE SOUTH DEVON GOLF TOUR A WINNER
Launched last spring, the South Devon Golf Tour was the brainchild of the management team at Dartmouth Golf & Country Club, who brought together seven of the region’s top golf venues to offer travelling golfers an affordable way to sample the area.
Last year’s participants were surveyed on their experiences and the results showed that 100 per cent rated the tour as excellent or good with all stating that they would book a repeat tour for the future. The tour also rated strongly on value for money and location of courses.
Buoyed by the success, more courses are being added to the portfolio for 2011. Oake Manor, a popular course close to the M5 at Taunton, has already joined and more courses are expected to be confirmed before the season starts in earnest.
The tour was also recognised for its success in attracting golfers to the South West when it was recently shortlisted at the South Devon Excellence Awards.
The news comes at a time when Dartmouth Golf & Country Club is seeing a spike in 2011 bookings. Reservations for stays between March and May have soared by 21 per cent on 2010 – which was a record year – and web traffic has increased by 43 per cent.
The South Devon Golf Tour packages, based at Dartmouth Golf & Country Club, start from just £159 per person for two nights’ bed and breakfast, one two-course dinner and three rounds of golf.
Golf rounds are made up of one round on Dartmouth’s Championship course and two rounds on a choice of China Fleet, Bigbury, Dawlish Warren, Dainton Park, Churston and Oake Park, while golfers can also enjoy unlimited golf on the nine-hole Dartmouth course during their stay.
For a £30 supplement guests can play one of the rounds at the renowned Bovey Castle. Guests also receive complimentary use of Dartmouth’s leisure facilities, which include an indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna.
Dartmouth Golf & Country Club is located just four miles from the historic town of Dartmouth and is the ideal base from which to explore the delights of south Devon, with Dartmoor, the River Dart, fantastic beaches and a host of picturesque towns and villages nearby.
DARTMOUTH DOUBLE IN PRESTIGIOUS HOTEL AWARDS
Dartmouth Golf & Country Club is leading the way for hotels in the south west and across the UK and Ireland after winning a prestigious HRS (Hotel Reservation Service) Hotel Excellence Awards.
The resort won the Excellence Through People award for small hotels, with the judging panel attributing the victory to: “A good example of the application of sound training practice which has a clear strategic link into business aims and targets.
“A range of training courses carried out with all staff, including the MD, has resulted in improved staff satisfaction rates of over 84 per cent, staff turnover falling to 4.2 per cent and sales turnover increasing by 20 per cent with operating profits up by 18 per cent.”
The venue also received a special commendation in the Excellence Through Marketing category with the judges calling the resort’s work: “A good example of a pro-active marketing initiative. By working with businesses in the local area, and using a mix of printed literature, email shots and internet-based marketing they achieved an excellent return on investment for the business.
“It also helped other businesses in the area increase revenue and raised the national profile of golfing breaks in south Devon. A well thought through marketing exercise with excellent tracking of results.”
Dartmouth Golf & Country Club was the only destination in the south west to be nominated for an award, and one of only two hotels in the UK and Ireland to feature in two categories.

“To perform so strongly in two categories is testament to the good work everyone here is doing and I’m confident we can continue to go from strength to strength.”
Now in its fourth year, the HRS Hotel Excellence Awards have become a benchmark for excellence. By recognising best practice in hotels of all sizes, the awards encourage all hotels to strive for success – making a real contribution to the success and profitability of hotels throughout the UK and Ireland.
Dartmouth Golf & Country Club is located just four miles from the historic town of Dartmouth and is the ideal base from which to explore the delights of south Devon, with Dartmoor, the River Dart, fantastic beaches and a host of picturesque towns and villages nearby.
The South Devon Golf Tour, based at the resort, provides golfers with an affordable way to sample the region’s top courses. It is an ideal base for a UK off-season break as it benefits from a mild winter, meaning no temporary greens or tees in play. Guests also receive complimentary use of the leisure facilities, which include an indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna.
